Nuria García is coming to Kuala Lumpur

Three days of intensive flamenco this August with the director of the London School of Flamenco, finishing with two showcase performances.

By Ivan Garcia

For three days this August the studio gives itself over entirely to flamenco. Nuria García, director of the London School of Flamenco, is coming to Kuala Lumpur to lead a masterclass, and it finishes with everyone who takes part on a stage.

Who is Nuria García

Nuria holds the Instructora de Baile qualification from the Sociedad de Baile Español (Spanish Dance Society). She attended a full-time dance school as a child and trained in Spain under a roll-call of the form's most revered teachers: Antonio Canales, La Tati, Adrián Galia, Marco Flores, Manuel Liñán, Javier Latorre, Ángel Muñoz, Eva Yerbabuena, Rosario Toledo, Rafaela Carrasco, Mario Maya, Belén Maya, Rocío Molina, Joaquín Grilo and Israel Galván.

As a dancer she has performed with many of the leading flamenco companies, including Paco Peña's, Juan Martín's, Fiesta Flamenca and Grupo de Jerez, touring extensively worldwide. For five years she worked with the avant-garde flamenco and contemporary performance group Von Magnet, which brought a number of television appearances along the way.

Her choreography has reached the West End, including Carmen the opera. She has also coached athletes and dancers well outside flamenco, most notably the USA Olympic figure skating team and Strictly Come Dancing. She is currently Director of Dance for City Academy and co-founder of their full-time ballet course.

Two tracks, three hours a session

Pick the track that fits where you actually are, not where you would like to be. Both run three hours per session across the course.

  • Beginners / Improvers, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM: posture, compás and the vocabulary that has to come before anything else makes sense.

  • Elementary / Intermediate, 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM: building a piece, and the harder business of performing it.

The course runs 22 to 24 August 2026 at the studio in Desa Pahlawan.

It ends on a stage

On 25 August the course closes with two showcase performances: The Campus at 2:00 PM and Marta's Kitchen at 6:00 PM.
